Our Staff

Dr. Cooney is originally from Indianapolis, IN. At the young age of 5, his family moved to Georgia. After graduating from Duluth High School, he did his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1998. Dr. Cooney then attended the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta from 1998 to 2002. Before beginning his senior year in school, Dr. Cooney completed an internship with the Indian Health Service in Montana. During his senior year, he was awarded with a Senior Honors Residency for Oral Surgery. After graduation, Dr. Cooney worked for other dental offices and doctors, gaining experience and mentoring. Finally, in January 2004, he opened his first family dental practice in Braselton. Subsequently, due to the growing demand for dental care, he opened another family practice in Jefferson in January 2007. Dr. Cooney cares deeply for his patient's and the care they receive. Dr. Cooney has kept up to date on many continuing educational classes, ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care. Dr. Cooney is married to Jessica, who was an elementary school teacher, prior to tackling the job as a full time mom. They live in Hoschton and plan on making the area home for many, many years to come. Dr. Cooney is an avid UGA sports fan, especially football.

Dr. Robinson is originally from Augusta, GA. After high school, he did his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2002. Dr. Robinson then attended the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta from 2004 to 2008 and graduated in May. He was the recipient of the Augusta Area Dental Society Award in 2007, which recognizes students for being in the top half of his/her class and displaying kindness to patients. Dr. Robinson worked at the Good Samaritan Dental Clinic in downtown Atlanta serving the working poor and homeless of downtown Atlanta to complete his externship. Dr. Robinson has kept up to date on many continuing educational classes, ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care. Dr. Robinson also volunteers at the Mercy Dental Health Clinic to help meet the overwhelming dental need of the underserved Athens population. While in Augusta, he was an active member of his church and was nominated and ordained as a Deacon. Dr. Robinson is married to Cassie, who is a registered nurse at St. Mary's hospital. They moved back to the Athens area from Augusta and are very exited to be here. They plan on making Athens home for many, many, years to come. Dr. Robinson is an avid UGA sports fan, especially football. He would love to chat about the current state of any Bulldog sports team! Dr. Robinson and his wife are members at Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Dr. Robinson is a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Clarke County Dental Association.

Jennifer is one of our hygienists and has been with Dr. Cooney for over 3 years. She is a native of Jackson County and is proud of her hometown roots. She graduated from Jackson County Comprehensive High School and continued on to Gainesville State College, obtaining an Associates of Science degree in 1998. She then continued on to Lanier Technical College for her Dental Hygiene degree, completing in 2001. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Terry, and her three children, Jake, Tori and Lexi. They keep busy on their farm raising and showing boer goats.

Terrie has worked for Dr. Cooney since early 2009 as a dental assistant. Prior to entering dentistry, Terrie worked in retail management for over 20 years. She has discovered that she loves the change and has brought with her great customer service that everyone will enjoy. Terrie moved from Maryland in 2008 and has acquired a fondness for sweet tea. Terrie enjoys spending time with her husband, Steve, and her 3 dogs.

Ashley is from Cleveland, GA. She graduated from White County High School in 2002. Ashley has been working in the dental field for over 5 years and has been with Dr. Cooney since 2009. Ashley is expecting her first child, due in October. When not at work, she enjoys shopping and spending time with her seven year old stepdaughter, Katlyn. Ashley loves her job and working with all of the wonderful patients.

Melissa has worked with the office since January 2007. She has been in dentistry for almost 25 years. She brings to our office her energetic and lively personality. Melissa has lived in multiple areas of the U.S and loves traveling. She has five children and three adorable grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do is spending time with her cats.
